Secondary School Curriculum
Dr. Gary Stiler
Summer 03

Coarse Description: Examines the philosophical and societal bases for the development of curriculum theories and practices in education. This course also analyzes curriculum issues relevant to teaching in contemporary secondary schools.

Evaluation:  This course opened my eyes to many of the resources found in the Evansville area that could be used in education. We visited the Old Post Office, the Farmer's Market, Willard Library, Carver Center, and New Harmony to expand our thinking in planning curriculum. We found articles in our subject area and then discussed how storytelling, constructivism, problem-based learning, local funds of knowledge, hands-on activities, service learning, and cooperative learning should be used in curriculum planning.
